Prepare to Meet Your God

Topic: Living for God Scripture: Amos 1:1– 9:15

Summary

God roars through Amos to warn and prepare us to meet our God. He comes in judgment on those who flaunt their prosperity and religious practices without caring for the poor and needy around them.

Application

The application for our time in the book of Amos is short and simple. I would like to ask everyone to fast from something (food, entertainment, hobby, sport) for some segment of this week (half a day, a whole day, two days, all week). Use some/all of your fasting time to apply the books of Joel and Amos. Here is suggestion of how to do that.

Amos: Pray the following…

  • Ask the Spirit to show us the poor, needy, oppressed, widows and orphans around us.
  • Ask the Spirit to show us how to appropriately grieve over the needy and oppressed.
  • Ask the Spirit to show us how to “return to the LORD” by being doers of the Word.

And don’t forget:

Joel 2:12–13

“Yet even now,” declares the LORD,

“return to me with all your heart,

with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;

and rend your hearts and not your garments.”

Return to the LORD your God,

for he is gracious and merciful,

slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love;

and he relents over disaster.
